How to block someone on TikTok from their profile
The profile route is the one TikTok's Help Center documents for individual blocks. It works whether or not the person follows you, and you do not need to interact with them first. Menu labels and icon positions can change between app versions and regions, so if your screen looks slightly different, update the app and look for the same options.
TikTok says the person is not notified when you block them, and any prior connection between your accounts is removed, so follows in either direction end. If you only want to stop a single comment or message rather than the whole account, the filter and delete tools covered later may be a better fit, because they leave the account connection in place.
- Open the TikTok app and go to the person's profile.
- Tap the Share button at the top of the profile.
- Tap Block at the bottom of the menu.
- Tap Block again to confirm.
How to block someone from comments or messages
When the problem starts in a comment, tap the commenter's name or profile photo to open their profile, then use the Share button and Block steps above. On your own posts, you can also block straight from the comment list using TikTok's Manage multiple comments tool, which is useful when one account has left several replies you want gone or when a few accounts arrive together.
For direct messages, TikTok's help pages describe blocking from the profile rather than from inside the chat. Open the sender's profile from the conversation, usually by tapping their name or photo at the top, and block from there. TikTok says blocking stops you and the other person from exchanging direct messages, so the conversation cannot continue. Screenshot anything threatening before blocking in case you need it for a report.
How to block multiple accounts at once
TikTok offers a bulk option for comment sections, which helps when a post attracts a wave of abusive or spam replies. You select the comments, and TikTok blocks the accounts that wrote them in one action. This only works from comments on your own posts, so it suits pile-ons rather than someone who never commented. For those accounts, use the profile route instead.
TikTok also lets you delete comments in bulk from the same screen, selecting up to 100 at a time. Blocking first and deleting second keeps the same accounts from returning. Before you clear abusive comments, take screenshots if you may need to report the behavior or keep a record, since deleted comments will no longer be there to point to.
- Go to one of your posts and tap the Comments button.
- Press and hold a comment and select Manage multiple comments, or tap the Filters button at the top.
- Select the comments from the accounts you want to block.
- Tap More at the bottom, then tap Block accounts.
- Tap Block to confirm.
What the blocked person can and cannot see
According to TikTok, once you block someone, neither of you can view the other's posts, find the other's profile in search, or exchange direct messages. TikTok's comments help page adds that a blocked person cannot engage with you through comments, follows, or likes. The block works in both directions, so you also lose access to their content until you unblock them.
Blocking is not a complete wall. TikTok notes you may still see each other in multi-host LIVE sessions, in Duets posted by other people, and in group chats you share. Content already copied, screenshotted, or downloaded outside TikTok is also beyond the block. If the person creates a new account, the block does not carry over, so you would need to block that account too.
How to find your blocked list and unblock someone
TikTok keeps a list of everyone you have blocked. To find it, tap Profile, open the Menu button at the top, choose Settings and privacy, tap Privacy, and then tap Blocked accounts. You may need to scroll to find that option. This list is the easiest way to reach a blocked profile, because blocked accounts no longer show up in search.
To unblock someone, TikTok's instructions are to go to the person's profile, tap the Share button at the top, and tap Unblock. Unblocking does not restore the follows that were removed when you blocked, so either of you would need to follow again. Parents and guardians using Family Pairing can view all of their teen's blocked accounts from the teen's profile.
Block vs restrict vs mute vs filter vs report
Blocking is the strongest personal tool, but it is not always the right first step. Sometimes you want to quiet an account without cutting it off, or you want TikTok itself to act on behavior that breaks its rules. TikTok's blocking help page lists several softer alternatives, and the comment settings add more control without involving any single account. Matching the tool to the problem avoids over- or under-reacting.
TikTok's blocking documentation does not describe a per-account Restrict feature like the one some other apps offer. Restricted Mode is different: it limits content in your own feed that may not be comfortable for everyone. If your app shows a mute option for an account or chat, read its description in the app, since availability varies by version and region.
- Block: ends contact in both directions and removes follows; the person is not notified.
- Comment controls and filters: limit who can comment or hide comments until you approve them.
- Notifications and message settings: reduce alerts and limit who can send you direct messages.
- Restricted Mode: filters what you see in your own feed, not what others do.
- Report: asks TikTok to review content or an account against its Community Guidelines.
Use comment filters to stop problems early
TikTok's comment settings live under Profile, Menu, Settings and privacy, Privacy, then Comments. Under Allow comments from, you can choose Everyone for public accounts, Followers for private accounts, or Friends, meaning followers you follow back. You can also turn comments off on a single post, either before posting or later through the post's privacy settings, which helps when one video draws unwanted attention.
Below Comment filters, TikTok offers Filter unwanted comments for likely spam or offensive replies, Filter keywords in comments for words you choose, and Filter all comments, which TikTok notes is not available to everyone. Creator Care Mode hides inappropriate or offensive comments and ones that were previously reported, deleted, or disliked. Filtered comments stay hidden until you approve them in Review filtered comments.
How to report harassment on TikTok
Blocking protects you; reporting lets TikTok act against the behavior. TikTok's Safety Center says it does not share your identity with the person or account you report. To report a post, press and hold it, tap Report, then Hate and harassment, then Harassment and bullying, and pick whether it targets you, someone you know, a public figure, or others. Add details if asked, then tap Submit.
To report an account, go to the profile, tap the arrow at the top, tap Report, then Report account, select Something else, and follow the same Hate and harassment path before submitting. It is fine to report and then block. Reporting first while the content is still visible can make it easier to select the exact posts or comments involved.
Handling ongoing harassment safely
If one person keeps returning through new accounts, block each one, keep reporting, and tighten who can comment and message you while it continues. Save dated screenshots and profile links in a private folder. Avoid replying publicly, since responses can draw more attention to the abuse. If someone posts your personal information or threatens you, report it immediately and consider telling local authorities.
TikTok's Safety Center includes a bullying prevention guide, and it advises contacting your local emergency hotline if you are in an emergency. Seek support from people you trust, and for young users, involve a parent, guardian, or school. Parents can use Family Pairing to review a teen's settings and blocked accounts, which helps when harassment comes from classmates or people the teen knows offline.
If blocking does not seem to work
Seeing a blocked person somewhere does not always mean the block failed. TikTok says shared group chats, multi-host LIVE sessions, and Duets posted by others can still bring you into contact. Check your blocked list to confirm the account is there, and look closely at the handle, because a lookalike username often means a second account that needs its own block.
If the Block option is missing or the action fails, update TikTok from the official app store, restart the app and your device, and try again on a stable connection. If it still does not work, use the in-app Report a problem option with screenshots. Do not install third-party apps that claim to block or track accounts for you, and never share your login to get help.
A healthy comment section takes active care
Blocking and filters remove the worst of a comment section, but the best of it comes from real viewers who feel safe to join in. Replying to genuine comments, pinning helpful ones, and moderating consistently do more for the tone of a page than any single setting.
Some creators also add a small starting set of comments to new posts. That never replaces real conversation, may conflict with TikTok's rules, and should not be used to drown out or answer harassment. Report and block abusive accounts first, and treat any outside service as optional at most.
